What a fantastic article using your voice to raise self-confidence when giving presentations. I'm one of those people who took speech class in the summer and have avoided giving presentations in my career. A few years back, I decided to join Toastmasters but didn't stick with. It's probably something to revisit because speaking is a valuable skillset to have regardless if it's for work or in your regular day-to-day life. Each tip resonated with me. They are so simple and get overlooked.

Thanks, Iden :-) Presenting and speaking is a key part of business life so it's something that benefits us all. Most things are simple if you break them down into smaller parts and practice. It's knowing what those smaller parts are that is the challenge!

very helpful advice - esp. like No. 7 Emphasis. btw do you think that Kiwis generally (radio presenters) speak particularly fast & ppl you meet generally in Aotearoa, compared to UK?

Crikey, just saw this comment!

Yes, Kiwis do speak very quickly on the radio and tv, plus they run their sentences in together.

The language is also less formal.

Thank you Wendy, I picked up a few good tips here. I have to say some years ago my wife and I (dare I say) were Amway distributors for about ten years and had built quite a sizable network, but one of the biggest things I personally got from it was the presentation skills as we spoke to some sizable audiences. But in the beginnings I found it nerve wracking (I was sweating bullets) just speaking in front of a few people. But the training & personal development we both received was a big takeaway which were skills I still use today. So what I’m getting at it the presentation skills people can learn, can transfer to many other aspects in their lives too. Having said that, there’s always something new to learn or remind us of something we’ve forgotten, so thanks for that.😎

Hi Mark, when I was starting out, I hated presenting, it was so nerve wracking. I learned my presentation skills at a five day train the trainer when I worked for a big retailer. I agree presentation skills are useful even if you don't think you need to present. Even one section in a meeting can be a presentation and if you want to rise up the ranks in corporate or run a business, it's a must. Sometimes people are asked to do presentations in interviews, too.
