Wendy, this article struck a chord with me. Thank you for explaining the process of setting goals and building systems without all the corporate jargon—sometimes the simplest roadmaps are the ones we actually follow. It may take a little effort in the beginning to develop these new habits but having a system in place is really like a GPS guiding us along the way.

Thanks Caryn. A lot of very simple activities like goal setting, one-to-one meetings and performance reviews are needlessly over complicated with jargon. I love the GPS analogy!

Enjoyed listening to your article Wendy! Love how you clearly lay out the steps to build the habit of goal setting, including the belief you can do it, to achieving success.

Thank you. We underestimate the part that belief and mindset play. It sounds a bit woo-woo so we don't talk about it. Personally, I like a bit of woo-woo.

I must practice these techniques more. I have articles to write and struggle to produce in a timely manner.

Hi Julie. I think it’s easier to get things done in a corporate setting as you have tasks and deadlines.

At home it’s too easy to do gardening, go out for coffee or plop on the couch for lunch and stay there all afternoon.

I’ve put all my tasks into a spreadsheet, with a column for each day. Then I can see where I’m struggling and adjust.

Also, with the big tasks like articles (I take longer to write them than some, I’m not a ‘bash it out in an hour’ type person), I break it down into daily steps. Then it seems a lot easier.

I try to not sit for hours on end. That’s bad for health. When I get up, it’s to the kitchen (LOL) or other unhealthy place.

I like seeing tasks and times on my calendar. I will attempt to work in parts instead of trying to complete at once.
